Green Friendly Cleaning

We all are trying to do our part to help the environment. Outfitting your home or business with air cleaners and purifier is a great step towards healthier living. But what about the products that are used for cleaning? Our staff proudly uses "Green Cleaning" products and practices. What is "Green Cleaning"?

The federal government's Executive Order #1301 defines green products as "environmentally preferable" products and services that "have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose."

Using Green cleaning products and methods helps to improve indoor air quality. Many traditional cleaning products contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). When cleaning, these VOC's are released into the air through evaporation and can affect indoor air quality. They can cause breathing problems, headaches, nausea, and skin problems. Many antibacterial cleaners contain pesticides which remain on floors and food surfaces and can find their way into our food and bodies.

The use of traditional cleaning products can also contribute to water pollution. Waste water treatment plants typically remove chemicals found in cleaning products, however, inadequately treated water can contain chemicals that are toxic. And many of us have septic systems - everything that goes down our drains goes right out into the ground.
Using green products lessens or eliminates the chemicals that are released out into our water and wildlife.

The good news is that in the past few years, "Green" cleaning products have come down in price and are now as effective as their toxic counterparts. The demand has grown so quickly that even many of the mainstream companies are changing their formulas and producing products much safer to use and store.

Our company is committed to the health of our customers as well as our staff. Last year, we started converting most of our cleaning supplies to "green" products. There are still a few traditional products that we use sparingly but we hope to soon have them replaced.

Sometimes we get complaints that a home doesn't "smell" clean - because the strong, perfumy or bleach smell is absent. Usually a home or office is left with just a fresh, neutral smell (no smell) when we finish cleaning - it is that strong "bleach" smell that we always associate with clean - but that odor as well as the chemical used is harmful to humans, pets, and our environment. We feel we have the best of both worlds - safe products that clean very well. And we are constantly evaluating them and trying newer ones to make sure we are using the absolute top products.

Overall, you can feel really good about the products used by our professional staff.
