MRSA bacterial infections are all over the news now and are causing panic in some communities.  Panic-levels may not be justified, although MRSA is very serious and can be dangerous especially to children, the elderly, and anyone else with a weakened immune system.  And for those that aren’t at high risk for death, it is still a miserable experience to go through.

 

There are lots of products that will kill the MRSA (as well as other) bacteria including bleach and hydrogen peroxide.  The downside to these cleaners is that they do not offer residual protection – a surface can be disinfected one night and re-infected the very next day. And wiping down EVERY surface in your building just once is unbelievably time consuming – you just can’t do it every day.

 

TiO2 is applied with a specialized sprayer and can be sprayed on every surface in your building – even windows, glass, toilets, and floors.  It is not removed with non-ammonia cleaners.  When these surfaces are exposed to UV light (either natural or artificial) the TiO2 is activated and will continually kill bacteria (MRSA, staph, strep , etc) and viruses (influenza, notovirus, colds, GI, Avian flu, etc).  You can offer continuous protection in just one-step and significantly reduce your risk of spreading MRSA and other dangerous “bugs”.    In addition, TiO2 reduces odors (VOC and organic)and makes many areas “self-cleaning” as dirt just won’t accumulate.  Mold spores can not survive on surfaces treated with TiO2.

So why are we so interested in MRSA - we've been through it - my wife contracted it last spring in a tiny wound on her leg – not only was it extremely painful, but the infection and the extremely-potent antibiotics left her feeling horrible for over a month. And of course as a parent, her main concern was that our children did not pick up the bacteria.  She talked with our pediatrician who told her that they were treating 1 -2 NEW cases PER week (that is still consistent as of October so it is still rapidly spreading among children).
